Le Tour De France Indoor Cycling Bike Review
|
The Tour de France is arguably the world’s toughest endurance race – over 86 hours in the saddle on a course that covers more than 2,000 miles of cycling in 21 stages, lasting 23 days from start to finish.
The race tests every aspect of the rider’s skills, including individual and/or team time trials, breathtaking mountain climbs, death-defying descents and of course, the high-action sprint finishes.
The 198 riders, from 22 teams, are the elite of the cycling world and are as fit as they come, and although everybody focuses on the tour leaders, especially the famous Maillot Jaune (i.e. the race leader), anybody who manages to finish this grueling event is worthy of being called a sporting hero.
So, the chances of you ever taking part in this spectacle are slim indeed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t simulate the experience in other ways.
For example, we have a friend who went on a Tour de France cycling holiday, where the group he was with basically cycled a large part of the official course, just a day or so ahead of when the main tour arrived.
But supposing you don’t have the time or money to fly to France to feel what the real Tour de France might be like?
Well, we have a solution for you! Introducing the best indoor bike trainer…
Le Tour De France Indoor Cycling Bike
Ready For The Ride Of Your Life?
“The one that does it all. The one where you can pick an incredible variety of workouts. The one where you can take your favorite bicyle route or trail, download and ride. WOW!!! Whomever had the idea for this creation gets the gold stars — Thanks!” (Herb Alban, South Carolina, USA)
If you’ve not read many good indoor bike trainer reviews recently, then this new piece of equipment is going to blow your mind!
To start with, this is the official training bike of Le Tour de France, which should already tell you that this is a serious piece of kit!
The bicycle training program offered by this equipment will give you such a realistic experience, the only thing missing will be the close proximity of nearly 200 other riders. (But there again, you won’t get knocked off your bike either.)
This bike has so many impressive features it’s hard to know where to begin.
So, let’s start with the one that is probably responsible for making this indoor bicycle trainer so realistic.
“Exceptional training for hill climbing. Seems almost tougher than the real thing. Tougher than any other trainer I’ve ever tried.” (Customer in Nevada, USA)
Incline & Decline
The Tour De France Trainer has an incredible 20 degree incline and a 20 degree decline, letting you feel just what’s it’s like to ride one of the Tour de France mountain stages!
Maybe you fancy a go at the infamous Alpe-d’Huez?
If so, this bike will simulate it perfectly!
And if you don’t feel quite so adventurous, that’s no problem either – just try a gentle slope instead.
But what makes the Pro-Form TDF bike so special is that the incline / decline feature is integrated with its…
“As billed. Serious workouts. Fantastic array of options. Making your own courses, ANYWHERE, and watching in Google Maps Streetview is a boredom-killer. Really silent too.” (Rob Foley, Minnesota, USA)
Google Maps iFit Live Technology
Yes, this TDF bike has iFit Live technology that is powered by Google Maps, which means you can ride anywhere in the world – from the comfort of your own home.
This stationary bike trainer comes programmed with 24 pre-mapped courses, but you can also create your own.
So, just imagine – you can experience any ride in the world, as the TDF trainer will incline and decline automatically to match the terrain you’ve chosen.
You’ll feel every little rise and fall of the roads, just like you would if you were actually there – but of course, you won’t have to contend with the weather, and there’ll be no traffic to deal with either.
But that’s not all!
How about the…
“I’ve had this bike for several months now. I must say that I really like it. The incline and decline are superb! It is super quiet and i can listen to my music and not have to worry about cranking it up to overpower the noise of the bike. The ergonomics are good.” (Customer in Idaho, USA)
Intelligent Wind Resistance
Many stationary bike trainers feature some form of variable resistance, but how many of them give you a more personal experience with an intelligent wind resistance system?
Well, the TDF Indoor Cycle does exactly that, by calculating your height and weight and then applying the natural resistance you would get if you were out cycling on the road.
It’s like your own personal bicycle wind trainer.
And, of course, you have digital gear controls (24 of them, in fact), to help you get just the workout you need.
So, what do the pros say about this incredible training bike?
This is what Lewis Elliot, Pro Ironman triathlete and former US national team cyclist, has to say about it: “The “Tour De France Trainer” is incredible because it has a very realistic road feel. In over 20 years of riding trainers, I’ve never ridden anything even close. My favorite features are the Google Maps iPhone application, and that the bike actually rotates up or down based on uphills and downhills. The “Tour De France Trainer” is by far the closest stationary bicycle to the road I’ve ever experienced! Five stars!”

“The bike is awesome, once I was able to set up the console with our regular Saturday Routes it feels like I am not missing any training during the rainy, cold, or windy days of Fall and Winter.” (Customer in South Carolina, USA)
Health Benefits Of Cycling
Even if you don’t have aspirations to become a world-class cyclist, there are many health benefits to be had from going for a bike ride (either on the open road or indoors, using a stationary bike such as the PRO-FORM TDF).
For example, cycling:
- boosts your metabolic rate, even after you’ve finished cycling
- builds and increases muscle tone
- builds strength and does not only exercise the legs, as many people think – it’s a whole body workout
- builds stamina
- helps burn up calories (about 300 per hour)
- improves co-ordination
- improves mobility in your knee and hip joints
- improves cardio-vascular fitness
- reduces stress
- reduces the risk of coronary heart disease – all it takes is 20 miles of cycling per week.
In addition, cycling is one of the easiest forms of exercise, and with an indoor training bike, you can go for a ride any time, regardless of the traffic conditions or weather – so why not make your Pro-Form TDF your winter training bike?
For example, it would make for some great triathlon bike training.
And even if cycling isn’t your sport of choice, it’s a great way to train and stay in shape – no matter what sport you play.
So, whatever your goals, you’ll find that Le Tour De France Indoor Cycling Bike is the best bike trainer there is!
